Julianne Hough didn't dance around this topic.
The 36-year-old cohost of Dancing With the Stars gave her candid opinion about her favorite contestants and even dished on a past winner that she didn’t think deserved the Mirrorball Trophy.
When Andy Cohen asked Julianne if there was a DWTS winner she “strongly disagreed” with during Watch What Happens Live on Aug. 18, fellow guest Mickey Guyton replied, “I just said Bobby Bones.”
Julianne nodded, adding, “I actually agree with you. And I think it's because of the fan base. It's all about fan base on that show. He was not the best dancer.”
The radio DJ, whose real name is Bobby Estell, won season 27 of DWTS in 2018 with his partner, Sharna Burgess. Contestants Milo Manheim and Evanna Lynch snagged the runner-up and third place spots, respectively.
And while Julianne didn’t appear on Bobby’s season, she has served as a dance pro, judge and now cohost alongside Alfonso Ribeiro for the hit dancing competition.
As for the contestants that impressed her the most, Julianne listed her five favorites, including Kellie Pickler, Xochitl Gomez, Iman, Adam Carolla and Apollo Ohno.
Dancing With the Stars is returning for season 33 on Sept. 17, and though the celebrity guests have not been announced yet, judges Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough will be sharing their critiques.
And though the cast has not been announced, that hasn’t stopped the internet from going wild with speculation. In the wake of the renewed popularity of the American athletes who competed at the Paris Olympics, many have speculated that some of this year’s standouts might take a turn in the ballroom.
Bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik is one Olympian who has been rumored to potentially make the cut. The speculation started after Stephen mysteriously vanished from the Gold All Over America gymnastic tour lineup—which his girlfriend Tess McCracken recently told E! News he would be prepping for after the Olympics—and later sharing on Instagram that he was headed to New York.
Past Olympians to compete have included women’s gymnastics members Simone Biles and Suni Lee, who each competed on season 24 and season 30, respectively.
And former gymnastics greats like Shawn Johnson, 32, and Laurie Hernandez, 24, are among the youngest winners of the competition show’s history. Shawn—who now shares kids Drew, 4, Jett, 2, and Barrett, 9 months, husband Andrew East—took home the trophy in season eight at 17 years old, and came back and scored runner-up for the show’s all-star season in 2012.
