An 11-year-old boy has a long road to recovery after being bitten around 60 times by a pack of dogs during an attack in South Carolina, according to multiple reports.
Police in Clifton, South Carolina, said the boy was walking toward the bus stop Wednesday morning when four dogs attacked him, WYFF reported. Officers gave credit to a neighbor of the boy who was able to scare away the canines.
After the attack, the boy was flown to a hospital to be treated for "very serious injuries," police said. Amy Lowe, the injured boy's mother, told WHNS that her son is in stable condition but it'll be some time before he's fully recovered.
"He was pretty much weak, out of it (and) clinging," Lowe told WYFF about her son's status after the attack.
Lowe said her son received 60 dog bites during the attack. The boy will need to be sedated for a couple of days because he's still in a lot of pain and has more surgeries to go through, his mother said.
Neighbor recalls dog attack
Lowe's neighbor, who WHNS identified as Natasha Mims, told the TV station that she knew the boy needed to help because there were "four big dogs."
"He was laying on his stomach, and clearly the back of his leg is ate off,” Mims told WYFF. "You know like the meat is gone, and that's what they were eating on when I pulled up... I asked him to turn over to look at me and he said, 'I can't move.'"
Lowe told WYFF that she was dropping her 6-year-old child off at elementary school when the dogs attacked her son.
"Natasha was calling me on (Facebook) Messenger screaming and hollering, 'Red! Red!,'" Lowe said. "(Mims) said, 'Get here. Get here.' So I didn't know what I was pulling up to."

Where are the dogs now?
Two of the dogs from the pack were euthanized, while the other two escaped, according to police. An owner for the dogs also hasn't been identified.
"I want the owners of the dogs to be held responsible," Lowe told WYFF. "They got to be held accountable. I want justice for my son."
A GoFundMe was launched by a friend of the family to help pay for the boy's recovery. The crowdfunding page said Lowe has four other children and that boy's nickname is "Red."
So far, the GoFundMe has raised $485 out of its $10,000 goal.
